The jewelweed and trumpet flowers in our backyard have typically attracted solo hummingbirds in the late summer.  However this morning we had at least two visiting our flowers and bickering with each other over who had first dibs.  That was a nice addition to our usual cohort of cardinals, mourning doves, blue jays, and as a special treat, a red-breasted nuthatch.

An appreciation of the little things in life ... like hummers.  I saw one in the backyard yesterday too.  Just one, therefore no dispute.  I've been seeing and hearing Red-breasted nuthatches in the park (not the backyard) of late.  Even when I don't actually see any I can still hear them in the distance. I suppose I could put up a feeder but then the squirrels would go nuts.  Get it?  Go nuts!  I just crack myself up.  Crack myself?  Does that mean I'm a nut?  No reply required.  I guess that I should get back to chasing neutrinos around the room.  Great exercise!

Interesting, Bickering. This Morning around 10 am while preparing to head home the same thing happened. Two Hummingbirds chased each other around. They Fed for a bit at the Rose of Sharon's and then landed a foot apart on the Paracord that supports the feeder up there and then flew off. Light was not good and Camera was in house. So an hour before we departed I decided to charge the battery and within minutes another showed up in perfect light at the Flox and bushes mentioned earlier..  It has been very dry up there since early July so when we arrived home after 3 months we were surprised how many flowers remain. Lots of  Rose of Sharon's at our place in Milton.  Up there the feeder was very busy with Chickadee's and Red Breasted Nuthatches, Cardinals and the odd White breasted Nuthatch.
Meanwhile nothing at the feeder after filling at home because it has been empty for 3 months.
Napper:) kids weekend at the beach.
