Not everything that moves across the expanse of my peripheral vision is a bird.  There are dragonflies everywhere darting through the air and seldom landing as far as I can see.  I caught one Green darner this morning.  Took a shot from where I was standing, but when I tried to align myself better it immediately took flight again.

Nice shot.  A green darner showed up in our small urban downtown backyard last year, of all places.

There are so many of them this year that I'm quite sure you would drop a dozen of them if you randomly discharged a shotgun.  Not that I have a shotgun.  I used to have a water pistol.  Come to think about it, I think a powerful water pistol could slow a few of them down.  Oh my, what have I done?  I might have given someone an idea for a video that could go viral.  All I'm saying is that they are all over the park, flying in every direction, so I wouldn't want to swing a tennis racket too fast.  Who's serve is it anyway?

I certainly hope no one shoots them.

As a kid, I caught dragonflies in a butterfly net.  They have very powerful jaws, as I discovered trying to untangle one from my net.  After that, I was happy to let them fly free without closer examination.
