I was taking a narrow path, just minding my own business, when there in front of me was a deer. This is just a rutted path. What now? How do I ask a deer to move aside and let me through? I kept my voice low, calm and soothing. "You think that you could let me through, maybe?" Just stares at me. I don't speak White-tail. Oh, I see, there are two of you. Does either one of you understand English? So I just gesticulated ... let me through ... me ... path ... through ... you know ... ah, a spark of recognition, I could see it in the deer's sad eyes. It turned 90 degrees and took a couple of steps into the weeds. I walked past (casually) and then it returned to the path after I had been successful. This stuff only happens in movies. It was definitely a moment.
