This morning (Saturday) in Cell 1 there was a Shortbilled Dowitcher and a single Dunlin along with a handful of peeps that were too far away to identify. At the newly constructed wetlands at the end of the Spit, I found three Least Sandpipers and at least a dozen each of Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers. Along the way, there were two Great Egrets and a pair of Great Blue Herons, and a flight of eight GBHs passed overhead near the lighthouse and headed southwest. The constructed wetlands are shaping up to be good shorebird habitat for the fall migration--one of the pond areas now has several inches of water in it.
