The flock must be anywhere from 300 - 500 bunting. It's hard for me to estimate, especially because the flock would split-up, so seeing absolutely all of them in the same section of sky at the same time didn't present itself. When I first spotted the murmuration it seemed impressive and then I discovered some of them sitting on a tree, while even more approached from the east as a smaller separate flock. I was really hoping that some birds might alight upon the sideline as they apparently did on a previous occasion, but that didn't happen while I was there. A couple of days before there was also a few Eastern bluebirds on the same sideline. Other birds included #s of Am. tree sparrows, juncos, a half dozen cardinals and a few blue jays. When three crows flew across the field toward the sideline the perched birds all took off into murmuration again. I've only seen a flock of Snow bunting once before and then there weren't nearly as many birds. I didn't see any birds of prey .... anywhere. Apparently there is a pair of N.harriers at Rouge Beach Park, so I'll make a trip to the mouth of the Rouge when the roads clear. With more snow forecast for Saturday and Sunday, clear roads might have to wait until March. Got my 38 year-old snowblower started but it sounds as if its days are numbered.
