Today I finally had some Common Redpolls at my feeders here in West Perth. They were travelling with a mixed flock of Goldfinch and Pine siskins (the siskins have been present for a couple of weeks now.) Also in the neighbourhood we have a flock of 20+ white winged crossbills feeding on the spruce cones, hard to say if they are the same flock I first photographed the end of October. Still have my fm red bellied, male and fm downies and a fm hairy intermittantly at the peanut/suet feeder, as well as the usual jays, cardinals, starlings and doves.
Sightings and numbers have been way down the last 2-3 weeks since the juevnile sharp shinned moved into the neighbourhood, juncos (who usually spend the winter here) are non existant and sparrows are breaking into smaller flocks. Also saw a dark morph rough legged hawk over by the river (Thames) which may be hunting local feeders as well.
Has Anyone seen a Snowy or any other owls in Perth or Huron County?
