Whilst just out for a walk out back in the meadow, wifey and I saw , what we thought were a squadren of ducks in the nearby retaining pond. Turns out it was 6 absolutely stunning male Hooded Mergansers and two females. Those big black and white heads of theirs really stands out.
This is in the south end of Barrie, off of Mapleview along Lovers Creek.
Also, yesterday morning about 9:30, the Commond Goldeneye, (about 4 or 5 of them) burst out of the creek area and went flying by around the meadow and near our house. Again, at first I thought they were just a bunch of mallards, (as we have a number of them around), but the rising morning sun caught their bodies and lit up their dark green, black and white bodies. My brain also regitstered their different flying style.
We had a few of them swimming around here last spring around March and April out back along the creek. Good to see them around again.
