Hi everyone.

I was out for a nature walk and birding this morning at Lake Aquitaine (SE corner of Glen Erin/Aquitaine Ave. here in Mississauga).  There were at least 100+ male Red-winged Blackbirds around the lake - it's all one could see and hear!

Anyhow, 2 birds decided to go for it and dive bomb me!  First bird was on the North side of the lake and flew right past my face!    The second bird was on the South side of the lake and attacked from behind, giving my head a peck in the process.   :o

Just what I need ... another hole in the head!

Hope you're recovering from your injuries, and you're up and about for the Spring.

This is the earliest RWBB attack I've heard of around these parts -- I've been the victim of "nature red in beak and claw" from these thugs, but only when the eggs are in the basket. I mean, they're not even beating on  each other yet ... Maybe it was something you said?

There's a place on Queen St. E. near Geenwood Rd., on the north side of Queen, where the annual return is announced by the non-stop "konk-la-ree"ing of these thugs (of course there are many, many similar stories out there, I'm sure) at the front of a low-rise apartment building. The thing that cracked me up about it was that they were virtually invisible, hiding out in the many Austrian pines planted there. The thunderous cacophony of red-wingeds was occasionally punctuated by a discordant grackle outburst, adding to the hilarity.

Perhaps I'm easily amused.

This is definitely the earliest I've ever been attacked by one which made it all that much more surprising!

  Perhaps he was trying to give me the hint that I really need to go for a long overdue haircut.  I'm thinking perhaps it's the same male that has been around the lake for years as this bird was in exactly the same tree and even on the same branch where he's always planned his surprise attacks from behind and always pecks people's heads, dogs, squirrels, etc.  Nothing is sacred to this guy!

What a riot!  That would have me cracking up laughing too.  I really like how you refer to them as "thugs"!  Too funny.
