Greetings

Got up early Sunday morning to get some shots of the sunrise at Col Sam Park. As I waited for the sun, a spotted sandpiper popped up infront of me looking for food. After the sun came up, I headed to the viewing platform and spotted two night herons chasing each other, goldfinches, yellow warblers, kingfisher and barn swallows. I did the loop, mostly on the east side and came across mockingbirds(lots of them), catbird, northern flicker, house finches, baltimore orioles, rw blk birds, savannha and song sparrows. I also found a juvenile flycatcher I think? I checked my book and I think maybe it was a alder, acadian or a willow flycatcher? Don't quote me on this because I'm not sure. The bird was of olive in colour and had a small crest on top of it's head and a white chest. There was a half eaten mouse on the side of the path, probably from a kestrels dinner.MMMMMM..Yummy.  The highlight of the morning was when I went down to the mini islands and found a green heron on one of the islands, it flew off as soon as I put my gear down....DANG!!!! So I packed up my stuff and headed to East Humber. I parked on the west side and walked over the iron bridge and found a single great egret on the north side of the bridge on the left side of the pond. It flew off and landed on the east side of the river near the east entrance of the park down over the small valley on your right. It landed on some dead wood in the water. I did the rounds on the east side, not much action, to many poeple with dogs off leashes, only a few mockingbirds. Walked back towards the west side and the egret was still there, hunting for food. Went over the iron bridge again and a second egret was at the same place were the first one was, so there are two egrets at the park. Overall a good day of shooting.

Col Sam Smith Park is at Lakeshore and Kipling, follow the road south of Lakeshore to the parking lot.

East Humber is at Parklawn and Lakeshore, follow the road south of Lakeshore and take the first drivway to your right all the way down to the parking lot.

Good birding to all :D
