between 1 and 3 today, me and the missus were roaming around the Don River trail (yet again).
Beachwood and Don River - a black crowned nigh heron was standing around, looking for lunch.
on Beachwood Drive, halfway up to O'Connor Drive, there is a large, dead tree. we always look for woodpeckers on there, but have yet to see anything.
while walking up in the pouring rain, i saw something out of the corner of my eye. took a second to process what i saw (we kept on walking and had to turn around).
there were two turkey vultures sitting on the tree.
first time i have seen one not in captivity, so it was pretty cool.
we watched them for 10 minutes or so. they started to get irritated by us taking pictures and were too wet to fly away, so we finally left them.
pictures will be posted today/tomorrow.

Not to sound rude, but you're clearly not looking up very much!

you see a lot of turkey vultures in downtown Toronto?
if so, tell me where. been "looking up" for 2-3 years now and i'm pretty certain i've only seen red-tailed hawks.

Great shots!

Although not as much this year but I often see them gliding over High Park or along the Humber River Trail, above and just north of the Dundas St. bridge and it's stunning!

Neat images and thanks for sharing them!

If you're ever in Scarborough, just head over to the glass buildings accross from the Scarborough Town Centre and you'll see Turkey Vultures flying there a lot.

FYI - the mods have asked to post photos (including those in reports) in the Photos forum.

I have seen TVs over the Don Valley numerous times. A few weeks ago one flew over the Gerrard St. bridge. I have also seen them over Rosedale Valley Road, near Sherbourne (apparently they nested on a building at Sherbourne and Bloor a few years ago).

i knew that they nested on Sherbourne and Bloor a few years ago. anyways, was still cool to see them roosting on a branch 30 feet away from me at eye level.

:D There's always one or two, gliding just near where I live! I have never seen them before, but this year, I see a lot of TV!

Are you anywhere near one of the temporary dump sites :)

Okay that is not only hilarious but timely as well as I was come here directly after reading a blog (http://corkscrewcurls.wordpress.com/) that mentioned how, in order to get to her beloved Taylor Creek, she had to pass a temporary dump site and she's grateful there were no "buzzards" circling overhead (and correctly, I hope, I advised her use of her incorrect use of term - ha ha ha).

Very funny!

Hello Kin, Nope, I am in Richmond Hill area and I also check around, there is no dead body on the raod (At least I cannot see them!) Sometimes they can glide so low that I can see their face! :P
