hundred vultures

at around 10 this morning I saw what appeared to be hundreds of turkey vultures circling and flying over head at the corner of Yonge and Eglington.  I didn't have my binocs with me so I can't be certain but they were all black underneath and sort of wobbly as they flew, at least one of the birds was a hawk which brought up the rear, I assume it is a mass migrating.  Any ideas....

On my way back from salem Ma. 2 weeks ago we saw about 30 Turkey Vultures flying close to the ground and then spotted another 30 or so in a dead tree very close to I-90 in the Hudson Valley.

Hi Christie,that sounds right. Vultures often roost in an area overnight,then take flight together(some see a group and join them). They kettle moving higher on the winds,and migrate further. Its the time of year when large numbers of Turkey Vultures migrate. When raptors kettle,its not unusual for a mix of species to join in. Sounds like a great sighting!

thanks for the info, it was amazing to see. I dropped my muffin when I looked out the window.  It's always great to do some birding at work. I've brought a pair of binocs to keep in my desk.
