Good evening.
Today Ian Cannell and I journeyed to the Niagara Falls area in search of the reported Slaty-backed Gull. The bird was found above The Falls just below the Control Dam. A great and very rare bird indeed. Worth the trip down there for anyone interested in Gulls.
While down there we also saw 5 Lesser black-backed Gulls, 2 Iceland Gulls, 1 Thayer's Gull, 1 Little Gull, 1 Red-throated Loon, and 1 Bald Eagle. As far as I know the Razorbill that has been at the mouth of the river for almost 2 weeks was not seen today but is probably still there.
Also found by others were 2 Peregrine Falcons, 1 Black-headed Gull, 1 California Gull and at Gray Road in Stoney Creek (on the lake) were a Barrow's Goldeneye, a King Eider and all 3 Scoter species.
Worth a day trip, so good luck to anyone heading down that way.
