Was driving up north today in search of the perfect Christmas tree with the wife and kids when I spotted a pair of large birds circling northeast of Hwy 7 and 427. Took a detour east, stopped and pulled out the glasses. Spotted two late-migrating golden eagles, one adult and one immature (just a bit of white left under the wings and tail). We followed them along Hwy. 7 and pulled over again on Hwy 50, where they made a low pass. It was a real treat for the boys and my wife, who got their first-ever really good look. I think they now understand why I spend hours at Hawk Hill just for the chance to spot an eagle. Simply amazing. Oh, yeah, we did eventually get a tree, but the day definitely peaked early.
