I went for a short walk in Bestview Park this afternoon and despite the wind and cool temperatures I saw at least one mourning cloak flying in the woods and got a pretty good shot of an eastern comma sunning itself on the ground. That's the good(?) news...because it was windy in the upper park I went to the lower park and got within ten feet of a beautiful pileated woodpecker - unfortunately he saw me before I saw him and he took off before I could even lift my camera (after my fall a few weeks ago I tend to look down more than usual when trekking through rough terrain!). O well, some you win, some you lose. I've seen him in the area before so hopefully I'll get another chance at him on one of my spring butterfly walks.
