At approximately 2:30 PM today, I observed what I initially thought was a male Baltimore Oriole, until I noticed the plain orange head - it was none other than an orange male Scarlet Tanager. It was feeding on the west side of the bowl about 1/3 of the way south. I saw it first in one of the tall pines before it came down to feed in one of the smaller trees west of the bowl for several minutes, allowing for a great view. I ran into a few other birders earlier but unfortunately none were around at the time to share before it disappeared into one of the pines again. I took many photos and will post them to the photo forum once I process them!
Other notables included a variety of warblers (16 spp. incl. a single Bay-breasted) and all local thrush species except Gray-cheeked. It was very windy in the morning but it brought the warblers down into the dense thicket east of the soccer field until the wind died down, when they spread out a bit more and I birded the bowl.
