I discovered this wonderful woodland a few weeks ago and went back today (Monday) for about an hour. Most of the spring wildflowers are gone but the butterflies were quite plentiful:

red admiral - very fresh
northern crescent
summer azures
skippers
cabbage whites
tiger swallowtails
common ringlet
baltimore checkerspot - very fresh, first one I've seen in a long time!
red spotted purple - 2 very well worn, why is it I never see a fresh version of this species?
eastern comma

Hey Howie,

Thanks for reporting your findings at Glendon Forest.  I was there last Thursday morning before going away for the long weekend.  What an amazing little trail.  I haven't had time to look at all my photos yet but here's one them...or should I say two of them.  I was lucky enough to find my first ever Baltimore Checkerspot and then a second one appeared and landed close to the first.  They were both sitting right on the pathway basking in the sunlight.

Very nice. I was there when the dames rockets were in full bloom so it was really colorful but, except for a few tiger swallowtails, almost no butterflies were around. What's happening at Rosetta? I was going to visit RMG yesterday but joined my son at the spit instead. VERY quiet, only one monarch and a few cabbage whites.

I haven't been to Rosetta in quite some time, not since the birds went through in May.  I haven't even seen the flowers there yet.  Will try to go this week, I'll let you know.
