I've had a disappointing year for nests. Usually we'll get several nests between trees around the house and my nest boxes.

Robins are good for one nest in the crab apple tree in either the first or second clutch. Chipping sparrows are good for one in either our blue spruce topiary or lillac topiary. And our nest boxes are usually good for at least one wren or swallow nest. This year nothing in the nest boxes or the topiaries. The crab apple tree had one Turdus migratorious nest in the second clutch however, the day after the eggs hatched, something predated upon the nestlings. My suspect is a yellow bellied sapsucker b/c I found the parents one day going at it madly as it lay on the ground. I thought it was dead until it flew away suddenly.

Anyway, it's now heading into the last stretch of an otherwise glorious summer.

I did have one highlight...I spotted a male indigo bunting at the side of the road one day. Last time I saw one was 7 years ago.
