To extend further into an issue of Image Backup, the more common practice is rendering multiple or redundant copies of one's beloved images. There is no sure-fire fail-safe method in the digital age that any storage medium can become corrupt or disabled, even to a CD or DVD medium.
As a result, the most practical avenue is the External Hard-Drives (EHD) through redundant copies,
stored on-site as well as off-site. As to the organization of the accumulating data or file, one has to select a method that enables easy retrieval. As to the meaning of "multiple or redundant" copies of one's data/image file, it has been suggested by many professionals to keep perhaps upward of but not limited to
FOUR copies in separate and individual mediums, some of which stored off-sites in secure locales. Others may choose on-line service to back-up their data.
Another practice in Image Backup also extends to photo expeditions or travels. In this situation, it is best to download your image files to the laptop or netbook computer, with
additional copy to a Portable External Hard-Drive at the end of each day of shooting. One must not rely on an abundant memory card capacity to lapse on the diligence of this important practice.
