I am trying to decide whether to join a birding walk on the Toronto Islands this weekend or make plans for birding in cottage country. I am wondering if the birds may pass the city without stopping because clear skies are predicted for the next few days. Does anyone have any thoughts based on past experience (I realize there are no guarantees)? Thank you.

With those two choice I would probably opt for Toronto Islands this weekend, as the migration is going to wind down after that. In cottage country you would view more birds on terrority so you could go there in weeks to come if you have that opportunity.

they're predicting no rain and southerly winds this wknd.  i'm thinking that things will bypass Toronto, no?

With no rain there will be no fall-out at the lakefront, so the migrants will be more spread-out. But from the reports I've seen from the Islands, there are always pretty much birds to be seen during migration.

Ward's Island is beautiful and I hear that the guided tours are always excellent. As an added bonus, there were no black flies, mosquitoes or deer flies last weekend when I was there - likely a different story in cottage country. Just something else to consider.  :)
