Hey Folks
For anyone in the GTA who hasn't gotten a Green Heron this year, Rattray Marsh is really the place to be.
I had a few hours yesterday before work and decided to stop in to see if they were still around.
There was one Greenie really far out, but I decided to set up anyways because you never know. So I literally just plop my butt down on the ground where I was standing, set up my tripod, get everything ready, and settle in for what I assume would be a long wait.
I look up and no more than 20 feet in front of me is this Green Heron, looking at me like he can't understand why I didn't see him..I am wondering that myself. He was right there. To top it all off...he didn't fly away.
We spent a good 2 hours together before a Northern Harrier put him up and he took off to the far side of the marsh.
Looks like about 10am is the time to get down there. 3rd time I have been there at that time and they are right out in front of you.
Good luck to all who go. It is a great photo-op of a species who normally books it whenever you get too close.
