Today, we visited the dam from 2-4 pm. The water was the lowest we've seen in quite a while, which is great for shorebirds. Here is a list of what we saw:
- 1 Osprey
- 1 Double-crested Cormorant
- 2 GBHs
-  Kildeer were the only shorebirds we saw, but there were lots of them. (I'm lazy when it comes to large numbers.)
- Barn Swallows
- Cedar Waxwings
- 1 N. Flicker
- 3 Gray Catbirds
- 1 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher
- 1 Yellow Warbler
- 3 Chestnut-sided Warblers
- 2 Belted Kingfishers
- 1 Baltimore Oriole
- 3 Song Sparrows
- 1 E. Kingbird
And of course, Canada Geese, Mallards, Ring-billed and Herring gulls.

Hi Leslie.

I was wondering if you could tell me where this dam is, and how to get there?  (I live in the GTA)

thanks,
Kim

I'm not sure how to get there either but the Toronto Field Naturalists are conducting a birding walk there tomorrow, August 21. You can find them under Birding Links on this page. I've emailed them with a request for more info as the time of the walk isn't posted on their site.

Hi Kim and BC,
G. Ross Lord Dam and Reservoir is located at Finch and Dufferin. You could take the Yonge subway to Finch and then a Finch bus to Dufferin, taking a Dufferin bus one, long block north to the first parking lot. There is also Downsview station at the end of the Spadina line. There may be a bus from there.

I thought I might join the walk, but noticed there was no meeting point, as well as no start time.
I called their number and left a message. Hope I hear back in time.

The Toronto Field Naturalists dam trip is Tuesday August 21. Meet at 10 am at the NE corner of Dufferin Street and Finch Avenue. Bring a lunch because the trip will probably go beyond noontime, I was told.

Thanks. I guess the telephone worked better than email. I'm going to try and make it.
