After watching the "Heavy Hitter", one needs to give the head a good shake to return to reality

In our more mundane world, for those who favors the mega-"Big Glass" and being ultra-close to one's subject, please look into this:

Then for those who like to be more discreet without the appearance of large arterilly, please look into this as well:

All of which comes crashing back to earth for the all-new Nikkor AFS 80-400 ED G VR at a very reasonable price....

Good birding and photography.

If you want BIG (and have unlimited financial resources), check out the Canon 1200mm:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/find/newsLetter/Mother-of-All-L-Lenses.jsp

You just need to cost factor in a small trailer to pull it.

I would lean towards the Zeiss 1700/4 as the mother of all lenses.

For 35mm, the Leica 1600/5.6 costs just $2 million.

For the extreme heavy hitter, the winner is the Canon 5200mm f14 EF lens with only several ever manufactured.  It is not the price that is prohibitive, it is the mass that requires a special platform to accomodate its weight.  To know more about this land of the giants, please read the following article:

Good birding and photography.
