Woodcock @ Ashbridges Bay

I flushed a Woodcock at the furthest Easterly point of Ashbridges Bay this afternoon. I was watching a flock of at least 3 dozen Redpolls, 1 Downy Woodpecker, several Tree Sparrows, a few Red-winged Blackbirds and a Robin. Didn't find the Ring-necked Ducks but there is a wonderful selection of other ducks in the marina.
Very cold in the wind. Sure doesn't feel like Spring has sprung!

Cool thanks for the report.  Do you think it is still there?  I was planning on passing by tomorrow to check it out.  I was there today but wasn't aware of the Woodcock.

It was pretty skittish and not pleased to see me. I've never seen one at ABB before so it was a total surprise.

I'd love to see the Woodcock too!  But hey Rotarren, be forewarned - might be really tough to photograph. The only times I've ever spotted one was after I've accidentally flushed them and they're just a blur of long bill and wings trying to get away from me as fast as possible! They are true masters of disguise and usually only make their identifiable call at dusk. But try looking for them in wet areas of tall grass. There's often one hiding out in the tall grass of the baselands at the Spit.
