Here's a shot of the Savannah Sparrow that I saw at Rosetta McClain Gardens, Scarborough today.

Thanks Meghan.

Sometimes when you least expect it, you find your best birds.  I was just sitting on a bench relaxing for a few minutes and thought I would scan the flower bed in front of me where there were a couple of Song Sparrows feeding and to my surprise...one was a little different looking.

If anyone in the city is looking to add Savannah Sparrow to their 'list', my suggestion would be to try Colonel Sam Smith Park.  I see them out near the points around the rocks each year during the May 24th 'Whimbrel Watch' weekend.  Perhaps someone who visits the park on a more regular basis could provide a little more detail on how long they stay around.

They're generally easy to find at CSSP from May through September, both on the land-filled area and the fields east of the filtration plant.  Their numbers seemed to be down sharply last year though - not sure why.  (Maybe all those dogs off leash?) I haven't seen or heard any yet this year.
