A Weekend trip to Presquille was as always very rewarding this weekend. While the species count was lower than the OFO count for their trip to Pelee the species were very similar. They noted many Bluejays (100's ?), we had a constant flow all day Saturday that easily crossed into the 1000's, so noteworthy in the volume. Highlights include an A.Bittern, Wood Ducks, Moorhen in the wetlands just outside the park, Gray Cheeked Thrush near the Lighthouse. A decided lack of waterfowl probably bcause its hunting season and I think the birds are smart enough to avoid the area for now. Warblers; Bl.Thr.green, Yel.Rumped, Black & White. Both Kinglets. Vireos; Blue Headed and Warbling. Sparrows; Chipping, Wh. Crowned and Throated, Song, Juncoes. Both Nuthatches, Creeper and Sapsucker.
I can attest that the waters of the lake are quite warm as I stood in the shallows just W of the lighthouse, up to my knees for a good ten minutes, comfortably. Presquille also showed its beauty in White Grass of Parnassus, Fringed Gentian, Burr Marigold, Obedient Plant, Little Bluestem Grass, Late Goldenrod and Grey Goldenrod, Calico Aster, Bearberry in full glory to name some botanical highlights (some yet to peak in bloom). Presquille Prv. Pk. is well signed from the 401 at Brighton, through town to the lake.
