Greetings
I headed up north on holiday Monday, to Swift Rapids, just northeast of Barrie to photograph the fall colors, as I pulled over and got out to take some pictures I herd a squawking noise in the distance. I grabbed my binos and to my surprise saw two flocks of sandhill cranes flying over me. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a sight to see. The sound was spectacular. And then they all came in for a landing in the farmers field about 3/4 of a km from the road. So I got into my car and raced over to the next consession to see if I could get a better veiw. No luck, they where still far away feeding away and dancing. I counted 67 cranes in the field. If you want to explore this spot or the surrounding area, take 400 north pass Barrie and get off at the Moonstone exit (not the ski hill exit). Exit# is 136. Go east pass Hwy 12 to Anderson Line and make a left. First street on your right is Foxmead Rd, follow it untill you reach Carlyon Line and turn left. There's lots of farmland there that look good for stopovers. Hopefully the cranes are still on the move for the next few weeks.
Good birding to all
