Two platforms have been put out in the inner pond where the floating boardwalk is. The Red-necked Grebes have chosen the larger more natural looking one. There are three or possibly four eggs in the nest.

Great news!   I was optimistic about their chances this year.  The raft is right beside the log where they tried last year, but they won't be affected by changing water levels.  They have been diligent incubators every time I've checked in the past few weeks.

I think that might be the most easterly recorded nest success for them.

All four eggs have now hatched.
The chicks could be seen riding on the female's back this afternoon as she swam around the nest. At one point one chick was out swimming by itself, keeping close to the parent.

Does anyone have an update on this location?  I passed by Sunday night and did not see the family in the usual place, a mallard was sitting on the nest.

Thank you.

When I was there last week they had moved and were fishing in the bay on the other side of the bridge.

Good Luck.
