This summer crackdown — billed as a public education campaign and bylaw blitz by the city and Toronto Police — comes as complaints about dogs being off leash have jumped from 130 in 2013 to 440 so far this year.

if you don't complain, nothing will get done. still continue to pick up the phone and complain about off-leash dogs in Ashbridges Bay, Sam Smith and the Brickworks.

When I was at Colonel Sam on Thursday (Sept 4th), I saw first hand how "successful" the crackdown has been. Unfortunately nothing is going to happen until an off leash dog seriously injures or kills a small child and even then, the breed (like Pitbulls) will be blamed and banned but other off-leash dogs will be ignored.

It can be pretty frustrating and I've actually had off leash dog owners apologize to me before they tell me how their dog doesn't like the off leash area but still needs to 'run free'! What are you supposed to say to these people? Btw Paul, have you actually seen an off leash pitbull at CSSP?

I don't think I have seen a Pit Bull at any park, on or off its leash. However, not all Pit Bulls are vicious but the whole breed gets a bad reputation because a few attacked people after their bad owners allowed them off leash.

No mention in the article of the negative effects of dogs on natural vegetation (except turf) or wildlife.

I heard this on the radio last week.  The excuse about not being able to afford enough bylaw enforcement officers has got to be the lamest one ever.  Anyone enforcing the leash bylaw should be able to collect several times their daily wage in fines before their first coffee break!

Just sharing a story

I am not sure what park it happened at but an work acquaintance was attacked by an off leash Pit Bull last summer.  He was bitten a couple of times. The police were involved with animal control but were not able to find the group of people with dog. Our friend had to endure the complete series of Rabies injections.

i go out at midnight safe, my dog even with a muzzle made another dog scream who attacked her

mines just a czech shepherd at least midnight alone in the trails can be off leash not bug anyone

dog parks are a mess waiting to happen i saw a bulldog kill a doberman there
