Good evening folks.
Today Ian Cannel and I did a tour through parts of Haldimand and Norfolk counties and a beautiful day it was down in them thar parts.
Our day started well and by the time the sun began to show itself we had already found 23 Eastern Screech Owls and 2 Short-eared Owls and as it grew light we started to wend our way through the Fisherville and Selkirk areas to Peacock Point and Nanticoke finding 12 Tundra Swans, a singing Carolina Wren and 17 Brown-headed Cowbirds among other birds
.
From Nanticoke we headed on down to the Long Point area and on Kitchen Road south of Simcoe we found a small flock of 7 Eastern Bluebirds.
We then headed through Fishers Glen to Big Creek Marsh and Old Cut Woods south of Port Rowan where we again found Cowbirds, etc.
From Old Cut we headed up to Lee Brown Conservation Area west of Port Rowan finding Sandhill Cranes overhead and in the fields opposite Lee Brown and then up one Concession to A Concession Road and the Triple Bridge Area along A Concession. ( Note the road through the triple bridges area is now closed as they repair 2 of the 3 bridges ).
All in all a pretty birdy day out there and following are some of the high lights :- Tundra Swan - 1000 ( most amid the ice of Inner Bay off Port Rowan ), Redheads, 1000 Greater Scaup, 3 N. Harriers, Cooper's Hawk, 24 Red-tailed Hawks, 11 Rough-legged Hawks, 4 A.
