Ok, so I was in a park where a Screech had been reported within the past two weeks and in which Screech owls should live in as the habitat is good. So when every small bird in the forest suddenly went ballistic and started calling and grouping in a cluster of trees, I went to take a look. The bird was at least 40 feet straight up a tree maybe higher and the sun was coming and going making it either too bright or too dark. I could see through the lens that it had rusty markings so I thought it must be a red phase Screech. It *seemed* to be NFL football sized. I took a few photos and left it alone since it already was getting more attention than it wanted.

Anyway after a lovely wander around that park, I eventually got home and took a look at my photos on the computer.

It doesn't look like a Screech to me. It looks like a Saw-whet. If so, then I was really tricked as to its size. (Maybe I'd been watching too many Kinglets and Creepers this week?) What do you think? Saw-whet? Other?
