Might as well do weekly update posts, not an individual daily post.

Today:
YR warbler
Pine warbler
sapsuckers
creepers
swamp sparrow (high in a tree!)
GC kinglet
RC kinglet
woodcock
flicker
hermit thrush
raven

I was in the Wet Woods form 12-2:30 today (Tuesday) and can add:

Thrasher
Chippy
White-Throated Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Junco
Cowbird
Turkey Vulture

Also had a possible Orange-Crowned - couldn't get a good enough look to ID it for sure (w/2 freindly brders helping), but it was our best match - not calling it, just saying, be on the lookout.

isn't it way too early for an orange-crowned?
you sure it wasn't a pine warbler?

We couldn't see any wing bars, so unlikely to be a Pine...but anything is possible as we did not get a positive ID.

I have a record of seeing an Orange Crowned in the Wet Woods as early as April 23 (though Mike Burrells migration data averages for the province put the Orange Crowned arriving May 1 on average - then again, this is the same date for Gray Catbird and one was seen at Second Marsh 2 days ago - his site is  http://mikeburrell.blogspot.ca/2012/04/ ... es-in.html)

I still think it's possible, even if unlikely, so we should all keep an eye out...I don't see one in the Wet Woods every year.

Spent six hours in the Wet Woods this Saturday morning from 8-2.  With the help of a few friends, we picked the bones and got nearly every bird in the place for a total of 51 species for the day.

Highlights included:

Gnatcatcher
Palm
Pine
Yellow Rump
Cedar Waxwing
House Wren
Winter Wren
Swamp Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Tree Sparrow
W.T. Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Thrasher
Phoebe
Hermit
Flicker
Peregrine
Turkey Vulture
Sapsucker
Hairy
Downy
Creeper
Killdeer
Woodcock
G.C. Kinglet
R.C. Kinglet
Canvasback
Bufflehead
Loon
Mute Swan

We had a possible Cliff Swallow under the Unwin bridge.  Maybe someone else can confirm this.

We didn't see Mockingbird, Junco, and NRW Swallow that were likely hiding somewhere...

I spent three hours on the 24th - the place is certainly getting busier. The way the plant life is thriving, very soon the paths will be all gone. Since pine warbler was a lifer for me - I spent considerable time in taking a decent photo of the bird. The highlights included:

Black & White, Pam, Pine, Yellow-rumped, hermit thrush, White-throated Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Cooper's Hawk, a Winter wren. Most abundant were certainly the yellow-rumped.

Congrats on the Pine lifer.  Can you post any pics?  I think it's an underrated bird in terms of beauty and the excitement of a lifer - and in the Wet Woods...Yee Haw!!!
