Little Brown Bat

I was poking around Rosetta McClain Gardens today and saw the usual suspects..birdwise nothing out of the ordinary. Best sighting of the day was a Little Brown Bat,which flew past at about eyelevel off the bluffs. As it approached I thought maybe it was a Swallow. Quickly I recognized the flight was all wrong,so kept on it with my binoculars. Then I thought hmmm could be a bat. It passed close enough I could see its ears and face and wings very clearly. Its the first time Ive seen a bat so well,flying past.(have seen one hanging in a tree elsewhere)

I'd like to hang a bathouse this year...any suggestions on how to locate it?

Usually in a tree, quiet wall (gable) 3 -6 M up should do it.

My youngest is outside playing ball with some friends 5 minutes ago and a bat flew over the street. It looked slow and out of place or better yet out of pace.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

Throughout the winter maintenance crews  disturbed bats in the bay where I work.  On two occasions there were bats flying around inside the hanger (in the middle of winter.) looking  disoriented because it was daytime. They were disturbed from what I assume was there winter spot at the end of the hanger door enclosures. It is dark and about 60 feet tall (similar to a pocket door).

One time a bat ran right into the side of my head. I am 100% serious, I have no idea how a bat could have done that but I was out birding and bam, hit me right in the side of the face.
