Saw two butterflies in the yard today, a Red Admiral and a Mourning Cloak. I tried to photograph the later using my broken-screen Canon G9, set to macro and with the rangefinder window. Apparently the parallax is more severe than I thought it might be because the butterfly was partially off the screen in every shot. Also, since the screen is kaput I can’t change the f-stop to increase the depth-of-field, nor do I even know what the auto setting was during the instant of shooting. Replacing the broken screen would likely cost over $200. So it is not worth pursuing a fix.

Wow, that's very steep price for replacing a broken screen, perhaps doing a bit more bracketing for each shot you may get the one that you like - at least memory card is cheaper.
