Keen observation! The Eastern Red bat and Hoary bat both roost in bushes/trees, but the Hoary does it in groups ... kinky. The Tri-coloured bat also roosts in foliage in a solitary fashion just like the Eastern red. The Hoary is bigger and more often seen but you claim to have witnessed a daylight sortie of a single bat. The Tri-coloured is endangered and is therefore probably not what you saw. The Eastern red is less than half the size of the Hoary. All other bats roost in cavities, either natural ones or within crevices of man-made structures ... not bushes. Maybe it was a totally alien species ... like a bat outta hell. You birders in Orillia have all the fun! I saw a mouse the other day. I guess that doesn't count, eh.
