The water level at the mouth of Duffins creek is quite low so that there are now extensive mudflats. A flock of juvenile Dunlin were foraging on the mudflats along the east side. This site is difficult to access unless one walks onto the mudflats, which can be done carefully. If you stray onto plastic mud then your rubber boots will be swallowed and you will need to walk home in socks. Getting close to this nervous flock is impossible because they will relocate even if they perceive movement from far away. This is not the shorebird behaviour that I've witnessed in the past, where such birds almost completely ignored human presence, provided you look away from them as you close the distance. When I left home the sun was out and by the time I got there the clouds had closed in again. After that light levels just plummeted, and then it started raining.
