I heard the happy chorusing of spring peepers yesterday afternoon for the first time this year....(March 25th) as well as first killdeer.

I heard peepers west of Erin when i was riding my horse on Thursday.  There have been Killdeers for at least two weeks in southwest Caledon in some open fields.  Waiting for my first Meadowlark.  Lots of Song Sparrows around.

Axeman, spring is coming!!!

I feel like I owe everyone an apology....sigh....Sunday's snow storm was my fault....I'm sorry. Last week I changed out the tires on our vehicles and took out my driveway markers.

Peepers in Port Colborne today around 1:30 pm and then some more along a back road in Stoney Creek on my way home. I was heading North on 11th road East just before it becomes Fifty rd.
Re: "Snow tires" I've only changed out one of our vehicles winter tires for the same reason. Was it two years ago we received 12 inches of chopped ice in the the middle of April. I did drain the gas from my Snowblower and then ran it until it quit.

Is it just me or was that a really short spring peeper season? It seems they never came back after that cold snap. Oh well...into the Ruffed grouse chest beating season.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to mention that we went for a hike on the escarpment on the day of the eclipse and after much patient scanning, managed to see our first spring peepers actually calling.  Usually they all shut up when we get close and we can never find them.  So we waited close to where we had heard them and they eventually starting calling again.  They are quite small and blend in well, but the movement of their throat sacs made them easier to spot once they got going again.
