A quiet and dismal morning on a Rouge field. Although the clouds at the zenith thinned and tore-apart to reveal some anemic blue they were fusing into a stygian curtain at the eastern horizon. That resultant gloom made photography unpleasant. Not much showed up, as if the atmosphere was foreboding. I saw a single Downy, one sapsucker, one Ruby-crowned kinglet, one Swamp sparrow, one WT sparrow, one juvenile White-crowned sparrow, a kingfisher flyby and a catbird that lamented the break of day.
At the mouth of the Rouge there were a few Mallards, a few N. Shovelers, a few Wood ducks, a GB heron and one Great egret. I did not see any Green-winged teal. The egret was fishing in the shallow water of the flood plane and caught two fish, a perch and a bass. Then a GBH swooped in and chased the egret away.
