Good evening
Today Margaret Liubavicius and I birded part of the Toronto Islands and though the weather started out cool the birds soon helped to warm us up.
Some of the birds seen are Turkey Vultures, N. Harriers, Sharp-shinned Hawks, 8 Cooper's Hawks, 2 Peregrine Falcons, Solitary Sandpiper, Short-eared Owl ( harassed by one of the Peregrine Falcons ), a good number of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and N. Flickers, Horned Larks, 3000+ Blue Jays, both Kinglets, Gray-cheeked, Swainson's and Hermit Thrushes, Brown Thrasher, A. Pipits, Blue-headed Vireo, 9 Warbler species, including Wilson's, 2 Orange-crowned, 275+ Yellow-rumped ( undercounted ) and 128 Palm Warblers ( undercounted ), Field, Lincoln's and Swamp Sparrows, Rusty Blackbirds, and 175+ A. Goldfinch.
Many of the Yellow-rumped Warblers, Most of the Goldfinches, Blue Jays, Raptors, Rusty Blackbirds plus others were seen as they migrated westward. Up there it is hard to identify some of the Warblers but I know by the chips that there were quite a number of Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers passing overhead while we were under the trees.
