Yesterday afternoon, which turned out to be a not bad day with sunshine and moderate temps, I heard the distinctive spring mating/premating call of a Chickadee - "fee bee ee" or "Hi, sweetie".

...the Cardinal male has been singing as well, the Blue Jays and Nuthatches are now appearing in pairs at the feeders...hmmmm... maybe the birds know something those silly rodents don't?

Well...the groundhogs unanimously said 6 more weeks of winter...but apparently they are only right 40 % of the time...on a binary question...lol....

I heard one today. Certainly a very welcome sign of warmer weather to come. Maybe they know something we don't!!

Hey!!

One neat thing about the Chickadee is you can whistle their Fe-beee song and they will reply anytime of year...
try it.. you see..

If you can whistle high enough you can do the same with American Goldfinches.

You can also keep Cardinal's guessing if you duplicate their springtime call.
