Not only is it great to see which birds are brave enough to withstand our winter climes but the clarity of your shots is breathtakingly (I mean literally... I gasped when I saw them)! Don't know my owls at all so won't even ask but what hawk is in the fourth shot of?

Much gratitude for your exquisite share.

Excellent captures. I spent the day there yesterday as well. Cold, but an awesome day:):)

Great sequence of shots there JTF, very nicely done.

Have the roads been effected with the weather we've been having?  I'm picking up a 300mm lens this weekend and would love the chance to try it out over there.

The main roads on the island are fine, getting into owl woods would need to be a 4 x 4. Theres alot of ice on the road in, haven't been over since before the rain lately. Several snowies on the sw end of the island, owl woods itself is quiet with only a few long eared present. Short earer can normally be found huning in the two fields on each side of the owl woods trail on the north side. You only have to walk a little ways in this way to see the short eared.

You can get to the owl woods fairly easily if you enter from the south end. The road was fairly clear today. Coming from the north would indeed be impossible without a 4x4.
