Spent a few hours on Amherst Island today. Thankfully the Owl Woods were teeming with regulars who helped point out the following: 2 saw-whets, 1 boreal, 1 long-eared and 1 barred. Apparently many of the long-eared and short-eared owls have gone awol from the woods, probably to another part of the island. On our own, spotted 4 snowy owls, including one on the ice, about 300 metres from shore, near the ferry channel, 2 Am. Kestrals, 80 or so snow buntings, 2 N. Harriers, many rough-leggeds, 1 hairy woodpecker, 1 downy woodpecker and possibly a pine grosbeak. In Kingston on Saturday, went down to Queens to spot the Peregrine reported to be wintering on a ledge at Botterell Hall. Sure enough, it was there on the ninth floor.
