The Western Grebe has resurfaced at Ashbridges Bay in the same area it was frequenting before. I saw it this afternoon around 3:00pm heading slowly in a westerly direction about 200 yards off shore, and I lost the bird as it rounded the southwesternmost point of the park, moving towards the Leslie Street Spit. For much of the time it was sleeping, with its bill tucked forward under its wing. Other birds of note included a single first-winter Iceland Gull with a flock of Ring-bills by the marina to the south, and a feeding Coopers Hawk in the pine trees at the end of the row of feeders south of the parking lot. The hawk had just killed a sparrow at the feeders and taken it a little further down to eat in peace.
