Twice over the past few days now I’ve witnessed the House Sparrows in the backyard doing something I’ve never noticed before.  With her beak, the female grabs the male by the scruff of the neck and dangles his lifeless looking body out from the branch bobbing up and down a few times before letting go.  He then flies down to a branch and preens himself and everything returns to normal.  Has anyone else ever witnessed this bizarre behaviour before?

I can't say i have ever seen this before either.

As a child i did see a spring battle between 2 male HS, where one drowned the other in a gravel parking lot puddle.
