While vacationing with my wife in Orlando, I managed to break away from the lure of outlet malls and all-you-can-eat buffets to enjoy a few moments exploring our resort. Florida is rich with birdlife especially wading birds. Almost every lagoon and pond throughout the complex (and anywhere else) netted several species such as Tri-color Heron, Little Blue Heron, White Ibis, Great, Snowy, and Cattle Egrets. All of the above were observed daily. Also of note and just as common were Anhingas and Sandhill Cranes. At the same time every afternoon, an adult Sandhill and three youngsters (as tall as the adult) would walk along the golf course behind our unit. I'm not sure the immatures could fly as every so often, they would jump up and down while frantically flapping their wings. Comical to watch.  Turkey Vultures number in the thousands, of couse, but also there were many Black Vultures circling about. A serious birding-only trip to this area is overdue. Now, to convince my wife...
