Today was a great day to go to the Spit.  Besides seeing terns and a baltimore oriole, we stumbled upon the black crown night heron nesting area.
we probably saw 30 pairs? maybe more? they were honking and squawking away and were in the trees.
There also were some egrets nesting near/with them, but they were not in the foreground.

some pictures (taken by me and my lady):

one concern, though: the cormorants were nesting close to them. i wonder if the cormorants will drive the herons out?

Having a quick look at what's happening -- the cormorant question reminded me of a story in The Star last week about the MRTCA's continued killing of these birds down there.

Of course, this is for the General Discussions forum -- I'll post when I have time to get more details. Any input from those with a good biological education -- self-taught or formally -- would be greatly appreciated.

I'm certain you'll find plenty to disagree with when the MRTCA's stand on this is clarified ...
