High Park

Good Evening All.
Looking for some advice on High Park.
A gem in the city that for some reason I have never been to.
I would like to go birding there and was looking for some thoughts on where to wander to within the park and what I may hope to encounter based on your experience.

There are a series of small ponds on the south-east side that are good for waterfowl. Grenadier Pond itself also has waterfowl and the marsh at the north end is also a good location. The woodlands on the northeastern half are also good for a variety of smaller birds as well as Cooper's hawks. There are a few feeders along the road to Colborne lodge that also bring out a lot of birds, particularly in winter. Any of the big open spaces are also good for migrating raptors.

i suggest parking at Colborne Lodge. you can walk to a pond east of there (2 min walk) off of the Queensway. you get some egrets and herons and ducks there.

some eclipsing male ducks in the southeastern corner of Grenadier pond.

Spring; Woods just west of Colb.Lodge (east shore of Gr.Pond) watch for Poison Ivy. Also Sprong Cr.Rd. running north from Adventure playground.

Summer; as mentioned elsewhere...Gren Pond, Southeast duck ponds.

Fall; High Park Hawk Watch- Hill immediately north of main parking at Restaurant. Gren.Pond weather deteriorates for winter fowl.

Winter; areas east from Colb.Lodge, look for feeders. Spring Cr. Rd. Explore slopes either side (owls?). Around the alotment gardens.
