... adventure with an assertive hungry squirrel! More about this later.
10:30am: started out today at Lake Wabukayne and meeting up with Denis for the first time. Great guy, nice person!
Denis ... I really enjoyed meeting and talking with you today.
No sign of the male Wood Duck anywhere.
So, we headed up to Lake Aquitaine and looked around here until about 11:45am - no sign of the male Wood Duck here either. (sigh) To say that I was feeling like "poop" rolled over would be an understatement after Denis travelling all the way out here to see him! The male Wood Duck has been around daily for the last 2 weeks and Murphy's Law, nowhere to be seen today. Major bummer!
Standing at the bridge looking through binoculars towards the East end of Lake Aquitaine and all of a sudden I feel a tugging and tapping on my left arm close to the wrist and hand. My initial thought was that a tree branch had caught my coat arm. Looked to my left and see a squirrel sitting on the railing, tapping on my coat quite assertively and giving me "the look"!
Anyhow, I just happened to have a peanut butter sandwich in my bag so reached out to hand him a piece. He just about ripped that piece of sandwich out of my hand! Cripes. He then proceeded to jump down to ground level and just about inhaled the food. Guess he was hungry.
