These last two are the main reason I was asking some advice on shooting black or white birds.  It doesn't look like this poor duck has any eyes!  Constructive criticism certainly welcome!

nice I.F.  moira.
you,ve got shadows,cause the sun is directly behind the bird.i got lots of those in cobourg yesterday.(i junked them).you could try shadow/highlights in P/S to lighten the area.still nice IF,especially the long tails.

there are a couple of photoshop tricks you can use.
if you shoot .raw, you can use Fill Light in the Raw processor to increase the dark areas.
if that doesn't work....oy, its a long story, but you basically open the file twice and the 2nd time (in RAW), you increase the exposure and/or fill light just until you are satisfied with the dark areas. then use layer masks to blend the two pics together.

If all else fails learn to position yourself with the sun behind you makes taking pictures more challenging but more rewarding...you have got the technique down well you have posted some nice action pics...
