Red-necked Grebes have arrived in big numbers. There were probably about 200 this afternoon at Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke. They were scattered all around the park in singles, pairs, and small flocks. Most were in breeding plumage or near breeding plumage, but there were a few first winter birds looking mainly black & white. There were also at least 5 Horned Grebes there. In the field east of the water filtration plant, I found 3 Killdeer (the first I've seen this year).
Earlier in the afternoon, I tried again for the Western Grebe in Port Credit. No luck with the target bird, but where there had been one or two Red-necked Grebes yesterday, there were several dozen at least today.
Also just west of Saddington Park, the three Harlequin Ducks were easily seen close to shore.
