It was sunny but cold today, so I am guessing that's why I didn't see that much activity.

First, the Brickworks. It was relatively quiet. There were at least 3 red tail hawks sitting on their usual perch on the northern escarpment. Looked like two adults and one younger/smaller hawk. These were the same ones that frequented the Brickworks last year and apparently nest in the area.
There were some but not a lot of red-winged blackbirds (5 max) and one grackle.  There were a few nuthatches and and downy woodpeckers up in the northern escarpment. a warning for those who want to walk around the northern escarpment: its relatively dry but it is very muddy and slippery in some slopey areas.  walk with caution.in fact, unless you are relatively graceful and mobile, i'd suggest you wait a few weeks before wandering around there.

there were no signs of the P woodpecker that was reported last week.

there were some water foul (2-3 Canada Geese and a few mallards). some cardinals and possibly a goldfinch or 2 in the bushes somewhere. otherwise, not a lot out there today. no kingfishers.

the Don River was more fruitful. 1 or 2 kingfishers were fishing all along the Don River and could be seen and heard.  i've never heard a kingfisher fly that far south down the river (it was getting close to Pottery Rd).  the three red tail hawks from the Brickworks were seen and heard circling above the railway tracks and heading towards Loblaws.
i saw a few very active downy woodpeckers trying to, um, make little baby woodpeckers. also saw (from a distance) a female goldfinch or 2.
